The Farne Islands
For the wildlife enthusiast, why not take a boat trip out to the Farne Islands to see the most famous Sea Bird Sanctuary in the British Isles. The Farnes are home to Atlantic grey seals and many species of seabird, including around 43,000 pairs of puffins, terns, guillemots and eider ducks, making it one of the best places in Britain to observe these animals in the wild.
Hop on a boat at Seahouses and sail around the Farne Islands, with plenty of tours on offer there is something for everyone. Serenity Farne Island Boat Tours or Billy Shiel’s Boat Trips both operating daily (weather permitting).
Alternatively, discover the history of Longstone Lighthouse. Designed and built by Joseph Nelson, this red and white circular tower built of rough stone with iron railings around the lantern gallery was established in 1826, and is most famous as the scene of the Forfarshire wreck and the exploits of Grace Darling. Visit the Lighthouse with Goldengate Boat Trips, the only operator licenced to land here.
Outdoor Activities
There are a number of excellent golf courses in the area to challenge golfers of all abilities. Seahouses, Bamburgh and Dunstanburgh all just a stonesthrow away.
Surfing, coasteering, paddle boarding, kitesurfing are all just a few activities NE Surf School, KA Adventure Sports and Surf Northumberland have to offer right on our doorstep.
Kimmerston and Swinhoe Farm Riding Centre‘s both offer horse riding for beginners up to the more experience rider with views of both the breathtaking Cheviot Hills and the Northumberland Coastline.

Castles & Ancient Monuments
Northumberland is a region that is steeped in history, with castles and ancient monuments just waiting to be discovered.
For kids and adults alike, a visit to Alnwick Castle is a magical experience. The castle, home of the Duke and Duchess of Northumberland, has stunning State Rooms, a fine art collection and beautiful gardens. And of course, it is an important location for the Harry Potter movies – the place where Hogwarts comes alive!
Bamburgh Castle has also been used in many epic films. This dramatic fortress is a treasury of northern history. Perched 150 metres above the sea; with its medieval hall, armoury and over 3,000 historical artefacts. The area preserves some of the most spectacular sections of Hadrian’s Wall, which nearly 2,000 years ago marked the northern frontier of Rome’s mighty Empire.
